I Found the Best Esthetician in Boston - So You Don't Have To
Editor's Note: I'm excited to be teaming up with ALXS SKN GYM to bring you a blog series detailing the best of pre-wedding skincare!
The pressure for brides to look perfect on their wedding day is real - and even though I know I've still had my heart set on finding an amazing esthetician to help me improve my skin's texture, clarity, and tone by guiding me through a maze of pre-wedding skincare treatments. I want my day-of glow to be next level - like, I'm talking supernatural. Even the best makeup artist can't fix uneven texture or cure blemishes. I spent weeks researching (i.e. seeking out instagram accounts to follow) but so many of the websites and treatments I'd come across seemed the same. I was concerned that whoever I ended up with would simply "yes" me and give me the most expensive treatment possible, regardless of what my skin really NEEDS.
I was scanning instagram one day when I saw a photo posted by the @BostonSkinGirl account of Olympic -gold medal -winning gymnast Aly Raisman. Her skin had a supernatural glow that seemed completely at odds with the fact that part of Raisman's job is to sweat an excessive amount while wearing a full face of makeup. Logic says her skin should be a mess, but one look at her even, glowing complexion and I was convinced - there is SKIN MAGIC happening here.
After futher instagram stalking, I perused the website for ALXS SKN GYM. After learning about owner Alexis Robertson and her cohesive skin strategy - my obsession grew. At SKN GYM, there's no cookie cutter skincare menu of treatment options - there are SKIN WORKOUTS, each of which is tailored around the client's individual skincare needs. In other words, Alexis doesn't believe in "one size fits all" skincare
When I met with Alexis for my consultation prior to my first "Skin Workout" (this is a requirement for all of Alexis' new clients, and the cost of the consultation is subtracted from the price of your first treatment) - I was elated - the woman was everything I was looking for, and then some.
A petite beautiful blonde, the first thing I noticed about Alexis was her flawless complexion. Smooth as silk, lineless, and completely even, I mentally clocked her age to be around my own, and I was flabbergasted when she told me she has kids that were born before I graduated college.
Talking with Alexis didn't feel like a consult with an esthetician - it felt like chatting with a cool friend with a wealth of knowledge about everything skincare. In the course of our conversation we covered everything from skin care "types" ("They're a myth. There's no such thing as a 'dry skin type' or 'acne-prone skin type' - there's just skin") the beauty industry, probiotics, and her signature PRP micro-needling treatment.
By the time I finished the consultation, we'd set up a schedule for six appointments which included two of her signature PRP Microneedling treatments, and concluded with a pre-wedding facial five days before to the wedding. It gets better: Alexis also gave me a brand new skin care routine to prep for my first appointment.
Over the next two months, I'll be documenting my new skincare routine, my skin workouts, the PRP microneedling treatment, and all the valuable skin care tips I learn along the way!
